ABOUT THIS POSITION

The City of Phoenix, the fifth-largest city in the U.S., is seeking a Sustainability Outreach Specialist fluent in English and Spanish. The specialist will support the Office of Sustainability in advancing its programs and helping the City fulfill its vision of becoming the most sustainable desert city on the planet.

The ambitious sustainability goals include becoming a carbon-neutral city with zero waste, transit and parks in every neighborhood, clean air, a sustainable water supply, and a vibrant food system. To create impactful change, innovative marketing approaches and community engagement programs in English and Spanish are required.

The responsibilities include:

Expanding Spanish and English public education and outreach campaigns, including in-person and virtual events, social media campaigns, and direct outreach.
Creating content and translation of marketing materials to Spanish for the website and social media.
Surveying and listening sessions in English and Spanish in communities to understand key levers for change.
Outreach to broader stakeholders in the region to understand obstacles to sustainability and developing programs to address those obstacles.

The hybrid work schedule is two days per week in the office, three days out of the office at events, outreach locations, and working remotely.

This position is currently funded through June 30, 2026. The temporary position will have benefits but will not earn city retirement credits or participate financially in the city¿s retirement program. If the successful candidate is a current City employee, all benefits will still apply to the employee.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

Fluent in English and Spanish.
Experienced in community outreach and content creation
Knowledge and training in sustainability, the environment, or related fields.

SALARY

Pay Range: $64,605 to $95,451 annually.

Hiring Range: $64,605 to $86,590 annually.

Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification.
Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Three years of experience in journalism, mass media communications, or public relations.
Bachelor's degree in journalism, mass media communications, public relations, advertising, marketing or a related field.
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

Experience with/in:

Public engagement programs or social media campaigns.
Graphic creation, Canva, and other digital imagery preferred.
Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Creating content for multiple platforms, including Meta (Facebook), Twitter, Instagram, website, magazines, newsletters, etc.
Photoshop and InDesign.
Developing education and community awareness campaigns.
Equity-related programs and outreach to underserved populations.
