The Regional Affairs Strategic Advisor (SA) serves as a key thought leader and advisor to senior leadership on regional energy policy and critical power supply and transmission issues facing the utility. This role provides strategic leadership on the interactions between Northwest energy policies and the commercial, regulatory, and reliability aspects of power supply, while also providing expertise on issues pertaining to carbon and carbon compliance in Washington state. The position is instrumental in building, managing, and maintaining relationships with other regional utilities, resource owner/operators, transmission service providers, and trade groups to advance Seattle City Light’s (SCL) power supply interests. The SA oversees SCL’s current and future Bonneville Power Authority (BPA) contract and relationship. This role may also, depending on expertise and experience, supervise two power analysts in the management of SCL’s long-term power and transmission portfolio. The Regional Affairs Strategic Advisorreports to the Power Contracts & Regional Affairs Manager.
To be successful in this role, a candidate must be familiar with utility power supply practices and management, organized energy markets, strategic positioning in and with power supply conditions in the northwest, and the importance of working cohesively and in coordination with other similarly situated entities within and outside the northwest.
Here is more about what you’ll be doing: Formulate policy and programmatic recommendations to support and enhance utility-wide goals and objectives(such as Green New Deal, Energy Efficiency legislation, carbon compliance, efficiencies in market interactions) and provide feedback on theappropriate allocation of resources.
Partner with cross-divisional internal partners to deliver high-quality research and analytics to support requests from leadership on issues associated with power supply needs, regional positioning, or other related issues.
Required Qualifications: In addition to the skills and experience mentioned below, a successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to creating fair and equitable outcomes and has:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, mathematics, finance, economics, engineering, or a related field (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work on the class).
Experience: Minimum of five years of experience in utility operations, power supply, energy policy and strategy, wholesale energy marketing/operations and/or risk management (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work on the class).
Certification/License: Driver’s License or equivalent mobility.

The full salary range for this position is $52.50to $78.78 per hour.
